Crossing the omicron– area iata set

Dec. 11

We`re doing it again. Time once more for a blog on a world cruise. We signed up about a year ago, having enjoyed what we thought was a similar cruise in 2018. There were enough new ports to be interesting….we thought. Then, Covid entered the picture. Viking was/is trying hard to make it all work with a moving target.

I`m sure that there will be other adjustments. But, as Karla has pointed out, sometimes the best trips are those with unplanned changes. Which brings me to a brief diversion…not the last. About 12-13 years ago, we were flying into a small island in Indonesia from which we would take an overnight boat to Komodo Island to entertain Komodo Dragons. We landed at about 10 in the morning at a very small airport….about 90* and 90 humidity. The other 10 passengers picked up their bags and left for town. We were left standing. One of the members of our party (unnamed, but whose name sounds like Maddy) launched into an early teen meltdown. Karla took her aside and explained that the best trips are those when the unexpected happens.

The last person at the airport rescued us and made the trip work. The person who was supposed to meet us decided on a vacation instead. The kids consider this trip to be one of their favorites and Maddy even wrote a college entrance essay using the unexpected is good theme.
